How It All Started
Trad Hunters started in our small archery workshop while building gear and chasing a dream. What began with fur silencers and moose leather tabs slowly turned into something bigger—something we didn’t fully see coming.

It started with revamping our packaging. My wife and I looked at what we were making and thought, “If we’re selling moose leather tabs, let’s put a moose on the package.” That simple change sparked something bigger. Together, we began leaning into a style we both loved—retro, hand-drawn, and straight out of the 1950s.
Next came the logo. I wanted something with edge, and she helped push it further. An arrow blasting through the word Trad, with Hunters stamped after it—it had bite, and it stuck.
I’ve always loved those old stories. My mom used to read gritty 1950s outdoor adventure books to us—garage sale finds filled with survival tips and knife ads. The storytelling and illustrations left a mark on my mind. They had weight. They felt real. That love never left.
And when the timing was right—after years of building gear and dreaming on paper—my wife and I looked at each other and said:
Why not bring that kind of magazine back?

Built Like it's 1955
Trad Hunters Magazine is printed digest-size, 5.5 by 8.5 inches and is something you can easily throw in your hunting pack. We’re going full 1950s with every detail: artwork, layout, fonts, even the paper finish. Each issue is personally designed by my wife and I and locally printed in small runs for quality and turnaround.
Each volume is themed, not seasonal. That gives writers room to dive deep and keeps the magazine timeless and collectable.
- Volume 1: Alaska – A deep dive into the last frontier, with a powerful interview from Monty Browning and stories from other bowhunters just like you.
- Volume 2: High Country – Mountain Goats, lions, elk and mule deer. Rugged country and the hunters who go where roads end.
This magazine has been community-backed from the very beginning starting with the pre-sale of the Limited Edition Volume 1.
Trad Hunters would not exist without the bowhunters, writers, artists, small businesses and readers who believed in it. We’ve taken risks—but we’ve never done it alone.
What We Stand For:
- Real stories from real bowhunters
- Keeping the old ways alive through storytelling and artwork
- Giving small businesses an opportunity to showcase their products to a group of like minded people
- Preserving grit and the rawness that makes bowhunting great to begin with
- Community, heritage, and respect for the hunt

This Is Just the Start
We've got big plans. More stories. More volumes. Maybe even a Fred Bear camo hat down the road (Bear if your listening, let's make it happen!). But for now, we’re keeping our heads down and putting in the work.
